Iveco completes delivery of over 200 heavy trucks to the UK MOD

Iveco Defence Vehicles has completed delivery of its largest ever order in the UK of 206 6x6 and 8x8 Trakkers to support the Royal Engineers on operations.

Replacing the existing fleet, the new vehicles have been supplied through two separate procurement routes.  The first of these, for 182 6x6 vehicles, was through the C Vehicle PFI contract run by ALC as prime contractor.  Vehicles were supplied in five variants, with three – the Medium Dump Truck, Self-Loading Dump Truck and Truck-Mounted Loader – being managed by Iveco.  Two other variants – a Drill Rig and a Flush Capping System – were procured under ALC’s direct control.

The second procurement resulted from the success of this 6x6 fleet in service.  The requirement was for a fleet of Protected Self-Loading Dump Trucks for service on operations.

As Iveco had already developed a ballistic steel cab for the Trakker family, the 8x8 Trakker was a natural choice for this demanding role.  The procurement was a direct purchase by the UK MoD, with Iveco managing the complete integration activity.  This required input from five separate sub-contractors – GD (UK), Terex Atlas, Thompson Engineering, BI Engineering and KraussMaffei Wegmann.

A total fleet of 24 Self-Loading Dump Trucks (Protected) are now in service, with the majority of the fleet on operations, where they have been extremely well received.  The protection provided by the steel cab, bar armour and other countermeasures has been particularly welcome.

This completes a series of successes in the field of logistics vehicles by Iveco in recent years, including significant contract wins in France, Switzerland, Germany and Spain.  The company is currently bidding to supply Trakker to the Norwegian and Swedish Armed Forces to re-equip their logistics vehicle fleets.  The Trakker chassis has also been the prime mover of choice for a series of other programmes, including, most recently, the supply of FAUN truck-mounted trackway systems to Turkey.

Trakker was originally designed for heavy commercial applications, such as quarry work, but its reliability, flexibility and durability has made it particularly suitable for adaptation to defence applications.  It is complimented by the Iveco Defence Vehicles High Mobility Range of 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 specialist military vehicles.

These programmes show how Iveco’s strategy of forming industrial partnerships has allowed the development and delivery of vehicles to support military operations with highly reliable and tailor-made solutions at a competitive price and against tight time constraints.

Maldonado wins Spanish GP, Champion Fernando Alonso

Pastor Maldonado grabbed an astonishing first Formula One victory on Sunday in a Spanish Grand Prix thriller that handed former champions Williams their first triumph in 132 races and nearly eight years.

The first Venezuelan driver to stand on the F1 podium, let alone win, Maldonado became the fifth different winner from five races won by five different teams - a phenomenon only ever seen before in 1983.

A 300-1 outsider before the weekend, Maldonado delivered Williams' first win since Colombian Juan Pablo Montoya in Brazil in October 2004.

"Very good job, guys," was all he said over the radio as his team mates erupted in celebrations but Maldonado made up for it on the podium as Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and Lotus's Kimi Raikkonen lifted him on their shoulders.

Then the champagne flowed.

The pole had fallen into his lap after Lewis Hamilton was sent to the back of the grid on Saturday because McLaren put too little fuel in his car for qualifying, and the former GP2 champion grabbed his chance with both hands.

Spain's double champion Alonso finished second, 3.1 seconds behind, to move level with Red Bull's world champion Sebastian Vettel on points at the top of championship.
Finland's 2007 champion Raikkonen was a disappointed third, taking the chequered flag 3.8 seconds behind Maldonado after just running out of laps in a spirited chase for a possible victory.

Vettel, who finished sixth, and Alonso each have 61 points, with Hamilton on 53.
It was the 114th win for Williams, nine times constructors' champions whose last title was in 1997 with Canadian Jacques Villeneuve.

It came the day after Formula One gave team founder and principal Frank Williams a belated 70th birthday party.

The Circuit de Catalunya, the most predictable on the calendar until the arrival of moveable rear wings (DRS) and the Pirelli tyres, served up a cliffhanger.

Alonso seized the lead at the start to the delight of the home crowd but that was just the opening salvo in a long afternoon full of thrills and overtaking.

While Hamilton showed off all his talents by carving his way through the field from last place on the grid to eighth, the battle at the front was on a knife-edge right to the very end.

With 10 laps to go there was less than a second between Maldonado and Alonso while Raikkonen was taking huge chunks out of their lead lap by lap.

Maldonado's team mate Bruno Senna was less fortunate than the Venezuelan victor, retiring on track after just 13 laps when Michael Schumacher ploughed his Mercedes into the back of the Williams in a shower of debris.

The seven times world champion, three years into his comeback but still without a podium place, branded the Brazilian an 'idiot' over the team radio even though it looked like it was clearly his fault.

"You can see he moves right to defend his position in the braking phase but then moves back left into me. I am very annoyed about that," said the 43-year-old.

"He was a backmarker and not a real contender for the points. We may not have been race winners, but we would have got good points."

Stewards were investigating the incident.

Vettel joined the list of unhappy Germans after he and Ferrari's Felipe Massa, again completely eclipsed by his team mate, collected drive-through penalties for failing to slow for yellow warning flags.

Iveco Daily wins Light Industrial Vehicle of the Year 2012

The Iveco Daily, one of the most representative models made by Iveco has been awarded the prestigious prize: Light Industrial Vehicle of the Year organised by the "Transporte 3" magazine.

The Iveco Daily, which is assembled in the company`s factory in Valladolid, has been named as the best vehicle in its category, that of light industrial vehicles. Iveco has had the Daily range on the market for no more and no less than 30 years.

The new Daily range is characterised by the remodelling of its original profile and balanced sections. Moreover the latest revamp of the range has given it a wider choice of engine options as well as equipment.

According to data provided by the company itself, aggregate sales during its time on the market are above 2.5 million units, something that shows how great its commercial success has been and highlights the real importance and reach of this range in its sector.

IVECO DAILY
Last year in Spain the jury of the “Premios Europa del Transporte”, set up by the magazine "Transporte Profesional" and the Spanish confederation of goods transport (CETM), awarded Iveco the prize not only for the technological innovations introduced with the New Daily, aiming to improve driving comfort, active and passive vehicle safety but also the efficiency of transport operations

Iveco and Europcar Renew Their Collaboration

IVECO and Europcar, a leader company in the vehicles rental market have renewed the international supply contract that provides, for the triennium 2012-2014, the delivery of more than 4500 vehicles.

This supply, which will have as destination countries like France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Portugal or Great Britain, provides a first delivery, for this year of 1.545 vehicles between the new Daily and the Eurocargo model.

There is no doubt, that this new agreement reinforces the brand image of IVECO, and consolidates his strong strategic position in Europe. This strategic allows IVECO to penetrate in many different countries with his new vehicles models and consolidate another market segment.

Furthermore, this new contract will help IVECO to promote his new model of Daily which retains its characteristics in terms of comfort, safety and environmental compatibility.

It’s important to comment the fact, that Europcar is established in China since March of 2008, and this might give Iveco the chance to strengthen its position in the Asian market

In addition to this, this new contract with Europcar, can enhance the Iveco´s Corporate Social Responsibility, because the Europcar company has just been awarded with the “World’s Leading Green Transport Solution Company”, and they can work together to protect the environment and contribute to social improvements.
